Throw Yourself A "Forgiveness Line"

March 21, 2009...

Living with excellence everyday is hard work. I'm not going to say it's impossible, and that you should give up on trying, but I am going to say throw yourself a "forgiveness line" when you have a mediocre day. Or to be more blunt...forgive yourself when you screw up. Why choose to feel so bad about yourself that you let one bad day potentially rub off onto a second day, and possibly turn that one, too, into a crummy day?

That happens. A lot.

Running Solo

March 20, 2009...

I've kept it pretty low key so far, but this summer I am taking on a pretty cool project. I've hinted about it here and there, and although the project itself is already taking hours a day in the planning, I've waited to really go all-out in publicizing it.

The project is "The Extra Mile America Tour" (

One GREAT Thing about Getting Older? Wisdom!

March 19, 2009...

Last night, I went to a professional networking meeting. Maybe you've gone to a few, too. If not, these are the pre-arranged, casual get-togethers with a bunch of "creative" and "successful" people you've never met before.

I had been to a couple before...maybe three...maybe four. I don't think I'd ever been fully committed to meeting anybody who could truly add to my success in one of these situations. And I hadn't. Call it being close-minded.

Last night was different.

"Success Moments"

March 18, 2009...

Although I am still two weeks away from holding Amicus 101: A Story About the Pursuit of Purpose and Overcoming Life's Chaos in my hands, I had a fun moment in anticipation of my new book arriving today. A copy of the actual cover was delivered.

The "Wow!" is not about the design or how it looks; it's about that it's real. The book is done

Extra Mile Kindness

March 17, 2009...

In flipping through the journal notes I wrote of last week's trip to Great Britain, I was given the chance to smile. Again.

One of the greatest rewards of my trip was how many amazing people I met. There was Arno the flight attendant from Holland, Nelson the businessman from Nigeria, and Darren, the international artist who created amazing sculptures out of surfboards. And those people were only the ones that I met on the returning flight back to the states!

Cathedrals and Castles

March 16, 2009...

This past weekend, I returned from a trip to Great Britain. As a reward for finishing my last book, I wanted to give myself an "Atta' boy!" Celebrating our successes is important. It's what gets us through more challenging times when victories seem slower in coming.

Garbage out...self-mastery in

March 5, 2009...

I love running on the beach. It is exhilarating, idea generating and empowering. It's always a highlight of my day. Every once in awhile, however, the ocean really throws back onto the beach all the garbage we have so carelessly thrown into it. And on those days, I cringe and my run is far less enjoyable. It hurts to see what we are doing close-up to the earth. also serves as a lesson.

"Kid School"

February 28, 2009...

The other day I splashed through rain puddles. And it was fun. Forget the fact that my shoes got soaked all the way through to my socks. Forget the fact that I am 46.

Do remember that it was completely liberating.

Be your own pace-setter

February 20, 2009...

A few months ago, I was doing my normal running thing on the beach. I was feeling pretty darn fantastic pushing myself at a comfortable pace when all of a sudden I was startled by a runner who blew past me. At first, I was inspired to try and match this runner's pace. I even duplicated his sand print strides in my effort to match his much faster speed.

"I can do that, too!"

And then I got tired. And then I stopped. And then I walked.

A lesson from an UNsubscriber

February 12, 2009...

Recently, I had a subscriber to my weekly M.A.P. to Success Circle! newsletter UNsubscribe. That's not the way things are supposed to work. What's supposed to happen is that each reader finds a valuable nugget, and then forwards the newsletter on to others who might benefit as well.

But didn't work like that.
