#492: Pee Pads, Screwy Emails…and Going Sideways

Jul 16, 2021Blog Post

Some days…
things go sideways.

What does “sideways” mean?

It means something went crazy wrong. It means that our plans got hijacked. It means the not-so-good and unexpected happened.

Like for me this morning…all before 8:00.

1. I received a cringe-worthy email.

As I plan my trek across Spain which begins in ten days, I received bad news from my only bed option in a key town on my scheduled route. They have no available bed. This means that on one upcoming walking day, I’ll walk extra miles on an already extra intense day to find an extra bed.

2. I heard from “I’m not a fan.”

Some guy who doesn’t like what I do in life wrote:
“You wussed out and didn’t respond the 1st time I wrote so I’m writing you again. Get F*cked & go take a long walk along a short pier mate. đź‘Ť”

3. I woke up with a “You gotta’ be kidding me!” pain.

A sharply pinched nerve in my lower back greeted me this morning. Nerves? Yesterday’s exercise? Time to do core muscle strength work.

4. My dog created a funky pee pad issue.

Little EMi thought she was “hitting” the pee pad…but unfortunately, she missed. Seeming to know “that isn’t the way it’s supposed to be”… she tried to clean up her mistake by covering it with the pee pad. What happened instead is that she somehow kept nudging the pee pad further along the floor until her “Tootsie rolls” were smashed under the nearby door. There…they glued to the bottom of the door and glided across the floor when I opened it.

Sideways stuff.
It happens.

Depending on the degree of the sideways, it has the potential to send our thoughts and attitudes spinning sideways with negative momentum.

And when we start spinning, it’s decision time.

Do we flow with our sideways and get back on track…
or do we allow our sideways to turn into someone else’s sideways…too?

EXTRA Thoughts

When we allow the world to write our script, we become background extras in our own life movie.

If you missed last week’s blog… here’s an audio version (3:57).
A reader once wrote he reads this blog religiously. With a nod to the Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life, the reader wrote: “Every time I read your blog, an angel gets his wings.”
I’m just hoping that maybe…just maybe…I add a feather more to yours.
With appreciation and gratitude…
