#490: Hallmark, Couches and Wake-Up Calls
I’ve been hearing a wake-up call
in my head for a while.
“Go be you.”
In response to the world shutdown over the last year, a few things that fed my best me were taken away: stage speaking, world travel, creating comfort-zone-stretching adventures.
In all transparency, I became a “me” that was 1/2 as tall as my best me.
But a couple of months back, I started to hear it.
I started to hear the wake-up alarm.
“Go be you.”
So now I am.
Yesterday, I bought a non-refundable ticket to Oviedo, Spain, leaving July 24th. It’s there I will start walking what many have called the toughest of all the Camino de Santiago routes…the Camino Primitivo.
The route is considered to be isolated and relatively untouched. I am gearing up my attitude to deal with the unknown and uncomfortable. I am preparing my legs, heart and head to spend fourteen days of walking up and down mountains. In comparison to previous walks I’ve done, it is shorter at 200 miles…but I am beginning to sense it might be my hardest.
After all, I’ve gotten used to being couch comfortable.
Wake-up calls.
They’re calls to go BE better.
They’re calls to go DO better.
They’re calls to go BE you.
Yes…they may shove us to the floor and out of our comfort zones, but I have never lived a great story or written about a great adventure watching a Hallmark Channel movie on TV.
Wake-up calls.
I heard mine.
It’s time to go be uncomfortable.
It’s time to go write a great adventure.
It’s time to go be me.
