Blog #641: Some DO Last Forever

May 23, 2024Blog Post

“I will.”
“I won’t.”

A moment’s choice can impact a lifetime.

______

We always find a reason why we’ll do…or won’t do.

But is it a good enough reason?

Will our reason feel good…tomorrow?

Will our reason hold up next month or next year?

Will our reason be the one we wished we’d chosen at the end of our lives?

Reasons given today matter much longer than just today.

Yet, often we are flippant in choosing them.

“I will.”

“I won’t.”

Because…?

______

Reasons.

“Live for the moment!”

“I’m okay to drive.”

“I’ll wait until I have more time.”

“I need to buy it now!”

“I have too many responsibilities.”

“I had to say yes!”

“I won’t find someone else.”

“I have to stay.”

“The pain is too much to get another.”

“I’ll have one more.”

“It won’t happen to me.”

A reason chosen in a moment chooses a thousand moments that come after.

______

The reason you’re holding onto now…

Is it a good reason?

Be sure you know.

Because today’s reason directs tomorrow’s walking trail.

“I wish I would’ve…”

They’re painful words to walk later.

______

What’s a lousy reason?

It’s the one that keeps us lying on the couch.

It’s the one that keeps us living the same day.

It’s the one that negatively impacts our tomorrow.

It’s the one our destiny doesn’t let us forget.

It’s the one coated in “go nowhere, do nothing” fear.

______

Take a look at the reason you carry.

“Why am I doing that?”

“Why am I NOT doing that?”

Why the need to ask the questions?

Because the quality of our tomorrows depends on it.

Note: The trail photo above is from walking across the UK. I never know what lies ahead on any trail, path or road I’ve walked…but whatever it is, I’ve never seen it before. And I love that feeling.

EXTRA Thoughts

Today’s reasons.
Tomorrow’s regrets.

They’re cousins.

If you’ve been feeling rejection, frustration or disappointment…it’s a good one to read.
