Blog #690: The Disagreeing Right Reader

May 1, 2025Blog Post

The Disagreeing Right Reader is Shawn Anderson’s reminder that disagreement isn’t rejection—it may signal honest alignment.

What “The Disagreeing Right Reader” Reveals About Personal Growth

Sometimes, our most helpful conversations are also the most challenging. The Disagreeing Right Reader shows us that being uncomfortable doesn’t always mean being wrong. In fact, those who push against our ideas might just be refining our thinking. There is space for both agreement and respect—and for disagreement that still honors the message.

From a reader.
Who disagrees.

Shawn –

I signed up for your newsletter in January after a friend forwarded it. I’ve read every Thursday since. I can see why my friend likes you, but for me, you push yourself hard and expect readers to do the same.

If I could send you my words of wisdom, if you relaxed more and let things just flow, you would find more peace.

I hope you’re not offended. I don’t expect a response.

Sincerely,

A.

______

My friend, “A.”…

You know…

You are exceptionally RIGHT.
I do push myself.

Wanna’ know why?

Because in my small understanding of how the universe works, this life is my ONE lucky shot. I’m not confident I get to come back. I’m not certain I get a do-over. I have no clue what happens after my last breath…nor when my last breath will happen.

But I do know NOW.

And what I know about NOW is that I’m here living this mysterious, cool life on a tiny blue marble in a vast, dark, ever-expanding universe. THIS tiny marble is the only marble in the millions, billions, trillions of marbles that exist that we know for certain life exists on.

So while I’m here, getting this magical chance…

I will PUSH myself in order to experience all I can.

This magical blue marble carries so many adventurous places to visit. This amazing earth holds so many millions of inspiring people to meet. This mysterious life carries an opportunity to fulfill so many cool dreams that have shined their light into my head.

I believe with my fullest heart…

That if I sat and waited for life to flow to me, I would never see the adventurous places, I would meet thousands fewer inspiring people, and without a giant personal push from myself, maybe none of the dreams in my head would ever breathe life for even a second.

So, yeah…

You are exceptionally RIGHT.
I do push myself.

And now you know why.

On a final note…

One of the awesome gifts of life is that YOU and every reader who reads this blog and stands on this small, blue marble with me will get to answer the same question I get to answer every day.

“Do I push myself and go…or do I sit here and chill?”

So, my friend…
Live what YOUR brain tells YOU to live.

And twenty years from now…
May your heart love YOUR decisions.

Gratitude always…

S.

Disagreement Doesn’t Mean You’re Off Track.

Let The Disagreeing Right Reader remind you that disagreement doesn’t mean dismissal—it could be encouragement in disguise.

EXTRA Thoughts

While I’m here…

I will count.

My voice might not last long after I’m gone…but while I’m here, I will do my best so that people I meet will feel THEY mattered.

Did you miss last week’s blog?

8,268.

That’s the number of hours I’ve spent doing something that changes my life every day.
