Blog #702: The Shapeshifting Question

Jul 24, 2025Blog Post

Without a doubt…

It’s the single most popular topic
people ask and write to me about.

Finding purpose.

______

The questions and comments take different shapes.

“I lost my purpose.”
“How do I find purpose?”
“I have no direction.”
“How do I know what I should do?”

If the “What’s my purpose?” thought has wandered around in your brain…

You are not alone.

______

As I get older…

My own answer to this ultra-big question has grown.

Once upon a time, before another once upon a time…

I thought my purpose was to be a dog show photographer.
I thought my purpose was to be a professional golfer.
I thought my purpose was to be a U.S. Senator.
I thought my purpose was to open a chain of small colleges.
I thought my purpose was to be as big as Tony Robbins.

I was wrong about them all.

BUT…

Each became a soundbite on my way to finding my undeniable purpose.

______

Today?

I believe “purpose” is more than finding our destiny on what to do and what to become. I believe purpose is to live, love, and learn in life.

For me specifically?

My purpose is to love every dog I see.
My purpose is to save worms off of hot sidewalks.
My purpose is to use my legs to see Mother Nature.

My purpose is to add hope to others.
My purpose is to grow my mind.
My purpose is to live with a kind spirit.

My purpose is all that.

And tens of other things related to them.

______

For those struggling to find direction and meaning in life…

Don’t make it so hard.

Don’t get caught up in what you’re going to do and be.

Get caught up in who you are becoming as a human being.

I believe…

THAT is a far more harmonious thought to carry and ponder.

EXTRA Thoughts

Live each day with a grateful heart.
Say “Thank you” a lot.

THAT is a powerful purpose.

Miss last week’s blog?

I shared a simple mantra that helps me when life’s drama starts building a bit MUCH.

Curious?
