Blog #740: The Taste of Whine
When I hike…
I carry a phone.
It’s not to call.
It’s not to text.
It’s to record my thinking.
Here are thoughts from recent Walk Talks.
______
#1. Goals that fizzle out.
I’ve learned…
The goals that I’ve been the least passionate about were really not MY goals, but rather goals OTHERS had planted in me…or that sounded appealing.
We get half-hearted about doing things that we aren’t fully committed to. Maybe you read something and thought, “That sounds like a good goal.”
Or…
Perhaps you wanted to impress someone by adopting a goal they thought you should achieve. But just because a goal sounds great doesn’t mean it’s for you.
We don’t have to claim every word of the inspiring article and say, “I’m doing that!” We don’t have to sign up for “Astronaut 101” classes because someone thinks we should be one.
Goals should wear our own fingerprints.
So…
In case one of your goals has been flopping and fizzling, it might save you from the weight of carrying extra anxiety by asking yourself…
“Is this really MY goal?”

#2. Pouring TOO much “whine.”
Seriously…
How much “whine” can we drink or pour into the world?
Does it help when we whine, complain, and moan about things we don’t like?
Does it empower us to move forward when we hear others spouting negative?
Pouring “whine” helps no one.
Whining doesn’t help inspire others.
Whining doesn’t help inspire us.
In case you’ve been feeling negative about things lately…
It’s time to quit drinking so much “whine.”
The glasses you’re pouring.
And the glasses others are pouring for you.
