Blog #692: It Might Come in 24 Hours

Why “It Might Come in 24 Hours” Is a Message of Hope
It Might Come in 24 Hours is a blog that speaks directly to those who feel like giving up. Shawn Anderson offers a powerful reminder: change doesn’t always come gradually—sometimes, it arrives in a single day. Hang in there.
Change doesn’t always follow a schedule. But when it does happen, it often feels sudden. Therefore, our job is to stay in the game. Still, doubt creeps in. However, staying one more day might make all the difference.
I’m in Alaska.
But so far…
No bears.
No whales.
No dogs.
______
For those frequent readers of this blog…
You pretty much know I love this state.
Alaska.
It’s raw.
It’s breathtaking.
It’s inspiring.
I suppose I need to find a way to work for the tourist board of the state because I praise its merits…much.
BUT…
In the ten days I’ve been here…
No bears.
No whales.
No dogs.
______
Today…
I flew in a helicopter over the Alaskan wilderness. I was scrunched up next to the window with five others on board. We were excited the weather allowed the helicopter to go up, but as we ventured further into the wild on our way to the dog sledding camp, we were forced to turn back.
The weather changed fast and hard.
The sky turned pure white.
Then the fog became intense.
We seemed to be floating through thick clouds.
I lost sight of anything more than the insides of the helicopter.
______
The pilot took no chances.
We made a quick U-turn.
There would be no landing on the glacier.
There would be no hiking across the ice.
There would be no dog sledding.
TODAY.
______
But life is not always about TODAY.
There is TOMORROW.
It might come in 24 hours.
It might come in a month.
It might come in five years.
But we should never forget TOMORROW lives.
Tomorrow is not an excuse to not do today.
It is a realization that comforts disappointment.
______
In my case now…
My Alaskan tomorrow might be a few months away, but I know it will come.
And when it does come, I will choose to believe it brings great things.
Like bears.
Like whales.
Like sled dogs.
I’ll be back.
Just because TODAY didn’t go as I had planned and hoped for…
I got TOMORROW.
And I’ll never give up on rooting for it.
I hope you don’t either.

EXTRA Thoughts…
Eagles.
To see them in flight or nesting in trees always inspires me take a grateful breath. A day might not work out as we initially hoped, but there are still things to find in a day to smile about. And TODAY, I saw lots of Bald Eagles.

Thank you for being a kindred spirit.
