Blog #546: Join the Experiment?

Jul 28, 2022Blog Post

I’m not always eager TO do it…
but I know there’s huge value IN doing it.

I sign up for my own experiments.

I just signed up for a new one.
For me…this one will BE a challenge.

It started on Saturday, July 24th.

______

Before I share my experiment…

Let me share WHY I experiment.

If better health, happiness and harmony can be created…
why would I settle for not living it?

Why would ANY of us?

Why would we take our ONE precious, awesome life…
and ever choose to live our SECOND best life?

______

Our instincts are always nudging us.

Mine did a little “Hey…you!” on July 24th.

I felt out-of-whack…so I asked myself:
“How can I improve my harmony?”

As soon as I thought the question…
the answer immediately raised its hand.

“Stop reading the news.”

And so my experiment began.

______

From July 24 thru August 1…

I’m paying ZERO attention to the news.

That’s NINE days without online, radio and TV blah, blah, blah. And that includes everything. Besides world, national and local stuff…that also means no sports pages or celebrity gossip. I can’t go near “Trending” on Twitter, and no reading social media feeds. (If you see a post from me…it’s automated.)

I want to see what my harmony feels like after the experiment.

“Testing, testing…1, 2, 3 testing.”

______

We live in a world of unease, chaos and conflict.

I’m going to do something to minimize mine.

The news? 90% of the time I read about what’s happening, I get frustrated, mad and discouraged. Opening the sports page? There’s a chance my team lost, and my favorite golfer always seems to find a double bogey and fall out of contention. Celebrity stuff? It’s tantalizing, but does it empower me? Never.

So for one week…

I’m doing it.

I’m turning off the dangerously disharmonious.

For me…this is a huge deal.

Ironically…

Despite being VERY aware of its assault on my harmony…
I gravitate to devouring the news multiple times a day.

______

What will I do in place of reading the news?

When my brain gets antsy and begs me to go online and find out what’s going on in the world, instead…I’m picking up my Kindle.

I have six books hanging out there for me to read…and reading a book is a far more harmonious ADD to my head than the online negative click dangers.

What’s in my Kindle reading line-up?

Mitch Albom’s The Stranger in the Life Boat
Oprah’s latest What Happened to You?
Jay Shetty’s Think Like a Monk
Amy Tan’s The Valley of Amazement
Steven Kotler’s The Art of Impossible
Hazel Prior’s How the Penguins Saved Veronica

I challenge myself to read two by August 2.

______

As always…

I don’t write these blogs because I love to write.
I write these blogs because I’m inspired to encourage.

So this week…
I’m hoping to encourage you to sign up for your own experiment.

Until next Thursday…
How about one week WITH or WITHOUT doing…”THAT”?

You decide what “THAT” is for you.

Have I planted a seed?

Then let’s experiment.
Let’s see what happens.

Are you with me?

EXTRA Thoughts

Being authentic is important to me.

If I can’t WALK what I TALK…then all I’m doing is blowing hot air bubbles into the Universe.

Here’s the audio version of this week’s blog.

Thank you for reading.
