Blog #686: The Two Flight Attendants

What “The Two Flight Attendants” Can Teach Us About Attitude
The Two Flight Attendants is a powerful short story shared by Shawn Anderson that reminds us how two people can experience the same situation and show up entirely differently. This blog post challenges us to look inward at the energy we bring into our day—and to decide who we want to be.
We all face turbulence in life. However, how we respond determines the experience we create for ourselves and others. For instance, two people can face the same stress yet react in entirely different ways. That’s why attitude is more than a reaction—it’s a decision. And when we choose to stay calm, we inspire others to do the same.
I’m writing this blog from Central America.
An experience I had on my way here will
highlight my seed-planting message this week.
______
A question to start…
“How do you see life?”
Is it stressed-out chaos?
Is it an adventure?
Is it something to be survived?
Is it a miracle to be celebrated?
Despite their commonality…
I ran into two people simultaneously who see it very differently.
______
I was on a long flight.
I interacted with two flight attendants.
They have the same job.
They are doing the same thing on the same flight.
But each shared something dramatically different with the passengers.
______
The first attendant…
Her eye smile matched her face smile.
She was positive and kind.
She cared.
And I felt those from her… extra.
The second attendant…
She was loud, angry, and mean.
She said unkind things.
She could care less.
And I felt those from her… extra.
Despite…
Same job.
Same flight.
Same passengers.
Each shared a far different…extra.
______
My takeaway?
It’s the extra we send into the world that others feel.
It’s the extra we send into the world that others know us by.
Two last questions?
1. What extra are you sending into the world?
2. Are you proud of the extra you’re sending?

Choosing the Right Role in Your Own Story
Let The Two Flight Attendants inspire you to reflect on how you show up today. Do you bring calm and confidence—or tension and chaos? You choose the energy you bring into your world, and just like those flight attendants, your attitude could be the difference between peace and panic.
