#466: Patience, Oh Human Big Dog
Old dogs can learn new tricks.
I have proof.
For those who read this blog, you know I occasionally share lessons from two Zen Master Chihuahuas.
I watch.
They teach.
Recently, my eyes started growing BIG every time I watched one of my two aging Zen Masters teach me to live fearlessly by jumping off the bed.
They think they can fly.
As a precaution to prevent a broken “wing,” I bought a dog ramp to help them get up and down from the bed more easily.
Unfortunately…after a week with the ramp in place…the dogs were still flying.
I was hours away from “throwing in the ramp” and taking advantage of the “risk free” send-back policy. The obnoxious packing box came out of the closet, and I started researching how to get the big wooden ramp into the mail.
And then it happened.
Unassisted, one dog went up the ramp.
Immediately, the second dog followed.
After my happy shock, my two Zen Gurus seated themselves shoulder to shoulder on the bed’s corner. They then did that freaky weird communication thing they often do. Together they sat staring. Four eyes eerily whispering:
“Patience, oh Human Big Dog.
To quit early is to fail often.”
Yikes!
So here I am…at the end of this blog…and I need to find my week’s lesson.
Which do I choose?
1. Old dogs can learn new tricks.
2. You’re only one day away from going up the “ramp.”
Tough call.
I think this week, I’ll let you choose.
EXTRA Thoughts…
Think you can’t do yoga or won’t like an e-book reader? Think you’re too old to get a degree, start dating, change careers or learn a new language?
Remember…
Old dogs can learn new tricks.
Or they can continue to just act old.
I’m glad I get to choose.
Create a week that you love. AND…may you even find yourself willing to learn a new trick or two.
With humble gratitude…
