Blog #575: They Don’t Show Their Faces

Feb 16, 2023Blog Post

We gotta’ get over it.

The negative stuff.

Hangin’ on to it gets us nowhere.

______

I received this email:

“How do I stay positive when every day some new shi**y thing happens that adds to my f***ed up life. I don’t know how you do it. You either have more good luck than me, or you’re f***ing delusional. Forget the question. I know the answer.”

(All asterisks politely added by me.)

In this blog…

I’m not sharing my response…
but I promise it was FAR more kind than I received.

______

If we spend our limited breaths and energy dwelling on…

All the bad stuff that has happened and is happening…what does that get us?

Anger?
Bitterness?
Emptiness?
Jealousy?
Despair?
Frustration?
Hopelessness?
Loneliness?

I’ll pass.

______

Those who know me know…

I don’t experience extra luck or wear excessive optimism.

BUT…

I do walk with an attitude that my goals move nowhere when I stay stuck wallowing in messy emotional and mental mud.

Success?

Happiness?

Harmony?

They don’t show their faces when mine wears anger.

______

So…regarding the email at the top?

Are you and I “delusional” to live optimistically?

Not from what I’ve learned.

Not from what I’ve lived.

And not if I want to smile.

BUT…

I do believe it is “delusional” to think that life and luck will ever be our good friends when we dwell on the crappy stuff.

______

Yes…

It’s challenging to stay optimistic in today’s world.

But just because the world spits negative stuff doesn’t mean our words have to.

If we go to bed knowing we gave a day our best in effort and kindness…

what more can we do?

And if we do DO that…

we have a reason to get up in the morning with hope, gratitude and optimism.

And that’s not freakin’ delusional.

It’s just experience.
