Blog #577: His Time Was Up
It was a HUGE bummer.
The once-amazing 100-foot tall Eucalyptus
was now lying across the bike path.
The vicious winds and rain
were stronger than this great giant’s roots.
His time was up.
______
There is a line of…
Eucalyptus trees in the park outside where I live.
I love to breathe them in every time I walk by…and I have appreciated their unique shapes 500+ times. This morning, when I saw this old “friend” had fallen after a night of nasty weather, I felt sick.
This “guy” had been extra creative with his shapes and bends…and he was one of my favorites. Ten hours after the giant had fallen…the park service made sure there was little proof of his once proud existence.
Except…
The hole in the ground where this incredible guy once stood.
______
It starts the moment we wake up.
Events start tipping our emotional scale.
And it works both ways.
Sometimes it works for the good.
The morning email that inspires our spirit.
The old dog who wakes up excited to play.
The cloudless sky that allows the sun to smile big.
Sometimes it works for the bad.
The poor night’s sleep.
The day’s appointment we dread.
The favorite tree that is now lying on the ground.
This morning when I saw the tree…
My emotional scale started tipping the wrong way.
But…
There’s great power in recognizing that.
______
I hate being bummed.
So today…
I made a conscious decision to “not go there.”
Instead…
I chose to re-start myself with a different, far more positive energy.
Despite the wind, rain and even hail, I chose to go on a 9-mile walk.
I got my body movin’.
THAT does it for me.
That is one of my answers to change the negative emotion that occasionally leaks into my brain.
So today…
A favorite tree fell.
But I didn’t.
______
“Do I leave it to chance?”
Whether we realize it or not, that choice exists every day.
Do we consciously choose our day’s feelings…
or do we let the randomness of a day’s events dictate how we’re gonna’ feel?
One or the other will happen.
______
Perhaps…
A giant “tree” has fallen in your life in some proverbial, painful way.
BUT…
It doesn’t mean you need to fall, too.
Purposefully…
Do something that lifts you.
Do something that you love.
Do something that inspires positive energy.
Rise up.
Stay down.
Unlike the fallen Eucalyptus…
This choice is ours.
EXTRA Thoughts…
Our day’s “falls” don’t have to be our day’s bio.
