Blog #719: Yelling Screaming Shouting

Nov 20, 2025Blog Post

How do I keep going through disappointment?

(Read on.)

______

A reader’s question…

I have paid lots of money to attend too many failed motivational seminars and read too many books that were supposed to change my life. Most got me nowhere but more debt. Success is not as easy as the booksellers make it seem. Not for me anyway.

I have found you to write with honesty and vulnerability which brings me to ask – how do you keep going through disappointments?

______

My reply in this week’s blog…

NEVER have I gotten used to feeling disappointment.

Nor failure.

Nor struggle.

Nor rejection.

They still sting me harshly.

But that’s undoubtedly a good thing.

If I EVER did get used to accepting the feeling of failure, I believe my potential would sharply diminish.

______

Dealing with pinches and punches.

The better we get at living through them, the more opportunities we give ourselves to reach goals.

For me…

It’s impossible to achieve goals without taking risks.

It’s impossible to take risks without experiencing failures.

The two go together.

I could choose to water down my goals and limit the disappointments, but is that really how I want to live?

______

“How do I keep going through disappointments?”

I accept the feeling when it bites.

And I let it run its emotional course.

Never do I pretend disappointment does not hurt.

Because it’s the hurt that fuels my fire.

It may be one day, two days, a week, or even a month to process and heal, but eventually…

My brain starts yelling at my failure: “Screw THAT!”

My brain starts screaming at my disappointment: “Screw THAT!”

My brain starts shouting at my struggle: “Screw THAT!

Pardon my language, but this is me being real with you.

If my brain doesn’t live with passion, how can my life?

______

Pinches and punches are gonna’ happen.

To me.

To you.

To our businesses and careers.

To our friends, families, and relationships.

They’re guaranteed in the Contract of Life.

BUT…

Nowhere in the Contract of Life does it read, “Disappointments, failures, struggles, and rejections should permanently deflate our difference-making potential.”

Next time when life stings you…

May the words that have allowed me to get up 1,000+ times find their way into your thinking:

“Screw THAT!”

Missed last week’s blog?

As I climbed the mountain to the lighthouse again, I focused on three things.

Curious?

A Week’s Difference

May you not be defeated by what hits you, but clap for yourself as you continue to move forward.

See you next Thursday.
