Blog #519: It’s Not a Wish I Wish

Jan 20, 2022Blog Post

Whoever sent the email was anonymous.
The email address wasn’t in my database.

It was three sentences short:

“I wish I’d made different decisions and went different directions. I wish I could do life over. What do you say about that?”
______

I’ll take that question.
And here’s my answer:

What do I say about THAT?
I say it’s a worthless thought.

Unless you find a yet-to-be-invented “Time Machine” on Amazon, your wish is a wasted one. Why let your brain remorsefully dwell on what can’t be changed?

Clinging to wishes for a life “Do Over” serves two purposes:

1. To make sure we feel miserable today.
2. To add “TODAY” to the list of past days we’ll regret tomorrow.

Your past is forever yours.

But..

Regardless of what happened or didn’t happen or what you wish you did or didn’t do…you still have the power now to determine the degree to which your past haunts you.

Or lifts you.

Instead of consistently punishing ourselves about yesteryear, let’s reframe the meaning and use it to elevate us to something better.

Additionally…

Let me share an idea that helps me.
Fingers crossed it helps you.

When ugly thought weeds start growing in my head, I plant a new thought. Instead of focusing on miserable regrets from my past, I focus instead on the kick-ass dreams I can still live.

Instead of wishing for my DO OVER…
I focus on my START NOW.

So what are you going to do??????

I wish you health, happiness, harmony…and a world of new thoughts.

With hope and gratitude…

Occasionally…

I receive a sad message that a blog reader is “deceased.”
This week, I received two.

Their laughing.
Their hoping.
Their contributing.

Gone.
______

After every one of my adventures…

I pull out a calendar and plan something in my future that is so exciting to my spirit that I think about it every day until I live it.

My thinking is…

If I don’t plan exciting moments to happen in my life…
how can I ever hope to live a passionate life?

EXTRA Thoughts

Life is unpredictably short.
So why waste what little time we actually get?

Go live what you’ve been thinking about living.
