Blog #666: Holding On to a Heavy Anchor
Conversations.
TWO of mine.
ONE about the PAST.
ONE about the FUTURE.
Perhaps…
ONE will change your PRESENT.
______
The PAST.
She was still bitter about something that happened ten years ago.
Her screw-up was not going away.
In her head.
“I should have done it!”
(Over the phone, I could hear her tears.)
I hurt for her still holding on to the anchoring memory.
When we don’t move on from the past…
The past never moves on from us.
It’s impossible to make a wish on yesterday’s star.
______
The FUTURE.
A reader’s email:
“Shawn – What do you think the country will be like in 4 years? I don’t know who you voted for, but this election has me feeling depressed. Is there anything you can share that can put this election into perspective? Your take on things usually makes sense to me, and I desperately need to hear yours now.”
My response:
What do I think will happen in four years?
I don’t know.
But what my crystal ball does tell me is that in four years, the sun will still rise, the earth will still spin, and I’m going to be doing my best to still shine.
That’s really all I know.
BUT…
I do have a small goal for you that might help clear your worry.
Read the news today less than yesterday.
Read the news today more than tomorrow.
I believe that if you do…
You’ll live today less worried about what will happen in 1,500 days.
And I have two more thoughts that I believe will help.
1. Get outside today…and look at nature.
2. Get outside tonight…and look at the stars.
In both…
Breathe in deeply how lucky you are to be here today.
I’m rooting for you.
Gratitude…

______
For those reading today…
The past.
The future.
Neither is good at living today.

EXTRA Thoughts…
When I was younger…
I’d work 60+ hours a week for the love of work.
Now that I’m older…
I work 30+ hours a week for the love of life.
I like the second more.

Did you miss last week’s blog?
I shared my thoughts about the U.S. presidential election. I had a message for those whose candidate won and one for those whose candidate didn’t.
Curious?
Here’s the link to the blog:

Thank you for being here today.
I appreciate you.
With much gratitude…
